A New Chapter for David Barrow

Dear Friends,

After 17 years of being a broad-based community organiser, I am answering a call to serve the Uniting Church more fully through a role at Uniting NSW & ACT.  On July 1st, I start a role as the Director of Mission and Social Impact.

For the last few years I have been supporting alliances across Australia, Aotearoa, BC, Alberta and the Pacific Northwest of the United States as Regional Director for the IAF Pacific. In that role I've often found myself telling stories about the successes of the Alliances of our regions; about what diverse, disciplined, relational leaders from across union, faith and community can achieve when they act together.

Many people around the world have been inspired by your collective achievements.

I am looking forward to continuing to con-spire for the common good of people, albeit in a new role!

The IAF is stronger and more diverse than ever thanks to the commitment made by hundreds of leaders like you, the sturdy and talented leadership of our board and the dynamism of our organisers, and supported everyday by our administrative staff.

When I was 23 years old, urged on by Drs Glen Powell and Amanda Tattersall, I went to a National Training run by Sydney Alliance and it changed my life. It taught me about power, self-interest, relationships, negotiation and how to work together. My last duty will be to co-train at the National Trainings in Victoria, Spokane, Aotearoa, and Sydney. For those who haven't yet done the 5-day National Community Organising Training, I hope to see you there.

Yours in solidarity,

David Barrow
