Something powerful is happening in Spokane. Over 150 leaders from across our community came together for a dynamic and energizing Discernment Assembly, where they identified the biggest challenges facing our families, workers, and neighbors—and then took action.

The result? Three new Research Action Teams! These teams will be made up of citizen researchers—everyday people committed to uncovering real, community-driven policy solutions.
Why This Matters
We know that Spokane’s challenges won’t be solved from the top down. Change happens when the people most impacted by the issues are at the center of the solutions.
That’s why Spokane Alliance doesn’t just advocate—we organize. We bring together people from all walks of life to listen, research, strategize, and take action. This Assembly was a perfect example of that people-powered process in motion.
Four Critical Focus Areas
These new Research Action Teams are diving into some of Spokane’s most pressing issues:
Housing and Homelessness – Ensuring every resident has access to safe, affordable, and stable housing.
Inclusive Economic Justice – Tackling inequities and advocating for policies that build a stronger, fairer economy for workers and families.
Youth and Education – Fighting for accessible, high-quality early learning and childcare solutions that support parents and educators alike.

The Energy Is Growing!
The enthusiasm in the room was undeniable. People were eager to roll up their sleeves and get to work. These teams will now begin the next phase—researching, listening to impacted community members, and crafting real policy solutions that reflect the needs and voices of Spokane’s residents.
This is what democracy in action looks like. This is what grassroots change looks like. And this is just the beginning.
