Auckland is in a housing crisis—and the Government’s own numbers do not add up for 2026.
Despite campaign promises to build 1,000 net new public homes per year in Auckland, the current projections show a net loss of public housing for 2026. This is completely unacceptable—and a betrayal of Aucklanders who were promised real action on housing.
Time for Urgent Action
Te Ohu Whakawhanaunga is calling on the Minister of Housing to immediately:
Clarify the Government’s plans for public housing in Auckland in 2026.
Publicly commit to delivering 1,000 net new public homes per year, as promised.
Ensure resources are allocated to meet this urgent need.
We have already written to the Minister seeking urgent clarification, and now we are calling for public accountability. Aucklanders cannot afford broken promises—we need concrete action.
Public Housing Is a Public Commitment
This is not just about numbers on a page—it’s about real people. It’s about families stuck in emergency housing, workers unable to find affordable homes, and entire communities pushed to the margins by skyrocketing rents and a lack of public housing.

Auckland needs answers. Auckland needs action. And we won’t stop until the Government keeps its word.
Minister—do the right thing. Announce 1,000 net new public homes for Auckland in 2026.
Join the call. Stand with us. The fight for housing justice continues.
